Road to Zero Funding Announcement

The Road to Zero (RTZ) initiative launched in 2016 by the National Safety Council, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with the goal of eliminating roadway deaths within 30 years. In 2017, the Centers for Disease Control became a partner to RTZ, which now has more than 800 coalition members. The U.S. Department of Transportation committed $1 million a year for three years and an additional $500,000 in year two to fund Safe System Innovation Grants; NSC is distributing these grants.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Safe System Innovation Grants, now in their third year. Grants are open to organizations with innovative approaches to making roadways safer and eliminating preventable roadway deaths.

Applications will be accepted through Jan. 25, with winners announced in March.

Applicants must clearly explain how their programs will reduce motor-vehicle crashes, set a time frame for the reduction, outline how the program will be evaluated and detail how the organization intends to reach its target audience, among other elements.
