CDOT releases groundbreaking list of Denver Metro Area multimodal projects From Bicycle Colorado's E-Newsletter December 22, 2020

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in partnership with the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) announced 30 new Safer Main Streets transportation projects today that will support Colorado downtowns, part of the Polis Administration's commitment to prioritizing funding for main streets. The Safer Main Streets Program, focused on the Denver metropolitan area, asked local agencies to submit creative solutions to reduce crashes and increase multimodal options for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. CDOT Director Shoshana Lew hailed the investments saying, "This first-ever round of Safer Main Streets projects will yield tangible benefits for the safety, environment, and economic vitality of communities across the Denver metropolitan area. Driven by the creativity of our local partners, impacts will range from re-envisioning stretches of Colfax in multiple jurisdictions to enhancing pedestrian access to transit facilities like the new N line station in Commerce City, to making crosswalks safer for everyone." Piep van Heuven, our Director of Government Relations, says, "This is a really significant investment in changing how our main streets work for people using all modes, and bicycling won big in this package with 17 projects in 12 jurisdictions focused on intersection safety, protected and buffered bike lanes, and new multi-use paths and connections."
