Job Opportunity: Community Traffic Safety Grants Manager






The Colorado Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office is hiring a Community Traffic Safety Grants Manager. 

About the Work Unit

This position is located in the Highway Safety Office (HSO) within the Office of Transportation Safety (OTS). The OTS exists to enhance the safety of the traveling public in Colorado through coordinated, integrated management of the Highway Safety Education & Enforcement Programs, Employee Occupational Safety, Homeland Security, and Risk Management Program.   A key purpose of the OTS is to foster partnerships with the CDOT Regions, federal and state agencies, local governments & the private sector to ensure the overall safety and mobility of the general public and the safety of CDOT employees is accomplished. The HSO within the OTS, develops goals, objectives & performance measures for the statewide highway safety program; develops the annual Highway Safety Plan, develops the annual Problem Identification Report; provides policy guidance, interagency negotiations, project and grant management, and training. Technical expertise is provided in overall highway safety issues.

 

About the Position

This position serves as the community traffic safety lead grant and project manager within the HSO. This includes management of high level, mission critical highway safety grant projects, including community level grant funded projects that require community engagement and inclusion for success. This position is responsible for working with multiple community-based partners and community groups to identify prevention strategies within communities to address their unique traffic safety challenges. 


Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • High level, community based grant management;
  • Coalition and task force development and management;
  • Developing and administering a community traffic safety engagement program, including training, consultation and coaching;
  • Development and facilitation of a community engagement board;
  • Providing on-going training and technical assistance to grant projects as needed and/or requested
  • Serves as a highway safety office liaison, working with local, state and federal agencies; and
  • Other job duties as assigned.

 

Work Environment

  • Primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but flexible
  • Work from home during the COVID pandemic, with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement post-COVID.
  • Approximately 25% spent in the field, 75% spent in the office
  • Travel required statewide to visit underrepresented areas. Out of state travel is required to attend conferences and training. 
  • Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
