CDOT to Hold Media Event August 8 - Teen Driving in the Spotlight
New data shows traffic fatalities involving teens trending higher

STATEWIDEThough the overall number of traffic fatalities involving teen drivers have fallen by almost 50% in the last 20 years, the past two years have seen higher fatalities involving young drivers: from 2005 - 2016, Colorado averaged 64 young-driver related fatalities per year.  In 2017 and 2018 the average was 86 fatalities, an increase of 34 percent.

Teen driving is in the spotlight as students around Colorado return to school from the summer vacation. This coincides with a new teen driving awareness campaign that CDOT will kick off on August 8. This year marks the 20thanniversary of the Graduated Drivers License (GDL) law in Colorado.

CDOT will be holding a media event to discuss teen driving and the importance of GDL laws in Colorado.
