Grant Opportunity for Colorado High Schools

CSPV is accepting applications from Colorado schools/districts that are interested in implementing the LifeSkills Training High School program starting fall 2021 or later. This funding opportunity is available to Colorado schools including 9th grade and covers costs to implement the LST program for one year, including teacher training, teacher stipends or substitute-teacher reimbursement for trainings, teacher manuals, and consumable student workbooks.

With COVID-19 impacting budgets and demanding more social-emotional competencies and healthy coping strategies, as well as Colorado youth vaping at twice the national average, this grant can help high schools address these challenges. Focused on healthy decision-making, social-emotional competencies, and integration of vaping topics into relevant lessons, LifeSkills Training (LST) can reduce stress, anxiety, drug use, and other risk-taking behaviors, as well as increase well-being. A research study of the LST High School program will be conducted, so half of the schools will be randomly selected to implement LST in fall 2021 and the other half in fall 2023.

The deadline for applications is December 20, 2020.  An applicant may be a school district, individual school, group of schools from a district or other educational/mental health agency. If more than one school from the same district plans to apply for the grant, those schools may work together to submit a single application.

Funding is provided to the University of Colorado by Altria Client Services for program implementation and by Arnold Ventures for program evaluation.

Along with completing an online application, each school must submit a signed principal letter and an LST Participating Schools form.

  • Application: Document containing instructions, application link, and all questions included on the application. Applications must be submitted online.
  • Role-Specific Fact Sheets: Information sheets about their role in the grant for Teachers, Site Coordinators, and Classroom Observers.
  • Principal Letter: Letter to be signed by the principal of each participating school.
  • Participating Schools Form: One form is to be completed by each participating school. These can be completed online (last part of online application) for up to 10 schools or the form can be downloaded here and emailed to the CSPV grant contact on the form.
