Road to Zero Launches Equity in Transportation Safety Series

The Road to Zero Coalition is excited to announce an upcoming series of listening sessions exploring the intersection of equity and transportation safety. These Equity in Transportation Safety sessions, sponsored by Uber, are designed to begin work to recognize and address the questions and challenges facing the transportation safety sector. Each session is designed to provide information and context around a specific topic, followed by an opportunity to take part in a discussion that will inform and shape the work of the Coalition going forward. Join Road to Zero Coalition members, industry experts and advocates to listen, learn and engage on these important topics.

Session #1: Road to Zero and Transportation Equity: An Opportunity to Learn, Engage, and Act
Date/Time: Sept. 17, 2020 at 2 p.m. Eastern, 11 a.m. Pacific

Join the Road to Zero Coalition as we kick off the Equity in Transportation Safety listening sessions! This session will feature a discussion as to why we are hosting the series and provide important context on the intersection of transportation safety and equity. Attendees will have an opportunity to take part in a moderated question and answer following short introductory presentations.

Session #2: Connecting Prioritizing Safety with Transportation Equity
Date/Time: Sept. 22, 2020 at 1 p.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Pacific

The Road to Zero Prioritizing Safety Committee has worked for over a year developing a roadmap of how to implement and incorporate this pillar into transportation. Now, the group is ready to put the roadmap into action and has identified three priorities to accomplish this, including connecting the prioritizing safety efforts with transportation equity. This session will discuss the importance of an equity lens in safe systems and explore ways to make sure equity is at the foundation of our safety culture.

Session #3: The Safety Premium: Designing for Equity in Vehicles and Beyond
Date/Time: Sept. 30, 2020 at 2 p.m. Eastern, 11 a.m. Pacific

New technology holds much promise in improving safety and accessibility for road users. How do we make sure that this technology is developed and deployed with the best interests of community members? Too often, safety features on vehicles are options and not available to all drivers, and new technology is not deployed equitably throughout communities that need it most. This session will explore how to make sure that technology is benefiting all road users and how to prioritize development of new technology that will address transportation safety disparities.
