Upstream prevention efforts are focused on changing the physical, social, policy, and economic environments in which youth grow to create a community in which youth can make decisions and behave in ways that positively affect their development and health. These strategies have the potential to affect a large portion of the population and can be leveraged to address root causes of health inequities. In this webinar, a researcher and community practitioners will discuss implementing evidence-informed upstream prevention efforts in community settings, such as inclusive urban design, and improving school quality. They will discuss why upstream prevention is important, provide case studies of local upstream efforts, and reflect on best practices, challenges, and future directions in research and practice.
